~A Much Ado About the Duplex~

Hello Everyone!!!! Man a lot has gone on with the Duplex since I wrote last. This post will be mostly pictures, but here is a brief summary of the last few months. Daniel and I moved into the "Rental" side at the end of February. I had a couple of big trips that I went on in March and Daniel had started up school. So... there wasn't a whole lot of progress due to our crazy schedules. But, once Daniel finished his school for the summer things began to take shape. There are just a few little things that we need to complete for the rental side.

Then for our "Home" side the 4 ugly bushes in the front were chopped down by Daniel and our sweet friend Jimmy Adams, carpet has been ripped out, the layers of linoleum scraped off, all the walls stripped down to the studs, the cabinets and kitchen sink taken out, the toilet and shower taken out, all the old insulation pulled out from the walls and the ceiling (such a mess and a ton of it!!!!!), and all the nails removed from the walls. Daniel researched what would be the most cost efficient way to get rid of all that stuff and the answer was a big ole Dumpster. That thing was filled to the brim and then Multnomah county came and picked it up for us. We have had such amazing support from friends around us helping with real manual labor. Daniel has several guy friends, Anthony, Scott, and Vince who have come over several times to work for hours on end getting our "Home" side ready. The last 2 days have been huge. Nate, our good friend, came over yesterday starting at 7AM and he and Daniel started putting up the drywall!!!! They continued their work today and the house is almost ALL walled up:) It's so amazing to see real nice walls. The before and after of this side will be truly amazing. I keep getting more and more excited to live in it.

Can't help but think of my B and Nana throughout this process. They would be really proud and want to know every detail, not by some crazy thing called a blog, but by phone. I miss them. None of this would be if it weren't for them.

Well, hope you enjoy the pictures and I am going to try to be faithful to write a blog a week from here on out. We will see. Love to you all "A" of Team Rush

We are coming to the END!

Hello everyone. Well... we are seeing the fruition of all our hard work. It's been a jam packed couple of weeks for Daniel and I . Here is a brief run through and then this post if going to be chalk full of Pictures and two VIDEOS:)

Our friend Nate started working on the Drywall in the kitchen and other parts in the house. Nate and Daniel finished it all up on Saturday the 12th and it looks amazing. If you look back at the other pictures in the last post, it's the wall with the new plumbing that is brand spankin new.

It's this amazing!!!!

~Done and Done~

We now have electricity in the garage. The electrician asked Daniel to dig a trench from the side of the duplex to the garage and then he would be able to run and existing line into the garage to give us LIGHT. We now have light, both garage doors work beautifully, and it's just really cool we have a garage.

My sweet brother Elisha came in town on the 12th to celebrate his 18th B-Day. It was nice to have a few days to just focus on something else besides the duplex. Daniel worked Valentine's Night, so Elisha and I went to a Hookah Bar. Oh Yeah, never done that before on Valentine's Day. We also took an amazing day trip to the beach with our wonderful realtor Alia.

Elisha, Clemi, and I at Cannon Beach

We said farewell to Elisha on the 17th and dove right into moving, cleaning, taping, primering:) and painting... BECAUSE the floor guy was coming on Monday the 21th!!!!! Ahhhhhh. I had Sunday the 20th off, so I painted all day long. No joke. 10AM to 3PM, 1 hour nap, and then 6PM to 12:30AM. Oh yeah. My best friend Farney came over to help Daniel move some stuff into the other side so there wouldn't be anything on the floors. He stayed and helped Daniel tape everything off for me to then come through and paint. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a best friend that lives here in this city. We riminisced about people we knew in High School and were we are now.

Sunday night, my great friend Mackenzie came over to help me paint. We had a pizza and wine party while giving a little tribute to Whitney Houston Greatest Hits playing in the background:)

Oh yeah Mackenzie!!!!!

She is a fast painter. Thanks again. xoxo

Monday... SORE. I was so sore, but it felt to good to see how different our duplex looked. It looks like a home. It looks GREAT!!! That day was the day the Zen Hardwood floor man Mike arrived. Daniel took these pictures and showed me once I got home from work. I couldn't beleive it. I guess I had never seen old floors sanded down like that. So, Mike sanded all the borders first and then over the last few days has completely sanded down everything. It is truly stunning work. Video 1 is the night Daniel walked around the place and showed what Mike had done to the borders. Video 2 is yesterday me talking with Mike about the stain choice.

Crazy huh?

This is in the bedroom and you can see the new paint color really well too.
